"This proposal is outrageous. Every day I drive down Holly to get home to my family and every day it takes over 10 minutes just to get from the freeway to El Camino. This project would extend that time and add to the decline of our air quality. The nightmare traffic, the pollution, and the lack of revenue for the city -- these are the ways the Sutter/PAMF project will damage our precious community."
Michelle Bacigalupi, 10 year San Carlos resident

Who we are:

San Carlos Residents for a Healthy Open Debate is a grassroots coalition of San Carlos residents, healthcare advocates, and other community leaders dedicated to preserving local health, safety, and quality of life in San Carlos. The group was formed in 2005 after Palo Alto Medical Foundation (Sutter/PAMF) announced plans to build a mega hospital at 301 Industrial Road, currently a toxic site off Highway 101. Alarmed by serious health and safety problems hidden in Sutter/PAMF's proposal, community members created San Carlos Residents for a Healthy Open Debate, to increase local awareness about the toll Sutter/PAMF will have on our beloved hometown.

What we support:

One of San Carlos’s greatest assets is its friendly, small town atmosphere. We support smart development that increases City revenue, while also improving pedestrian and bicycle access to our downtown and the surrounding neighborhoods. We value our quality of life and want a safe and healthy environment in which to live, work, play and raise our families.

Traffic congestion, air pollution, and a challenging business climate are already among the most serious problems facing our community. We will not support poorly planned, unnecessary development proposals like Sutter/PAMF's, which only make these problems worse.

San Carlos is currently well served by several local hospitals. We do not need another inpatient facility and we do not want the gridlock, poor air quality, strain on City services and economic hardship that the Sutter/PAMF proposal may cause.
